The story of Clarks' success dates back to 1825 when two brothers set up a slipper shop in a small English village. Over the next 50 years, the slipper business would grow and evolve and then, in 1883, one of the Clarks brothers would come up with a revolutionary footwear concept – a shoe that followed the natural shape of the foot. From that point forward, Clarks (and footwear in general) would never be the same again.
Clarks footwear did not stop revolutionizing the footwear industry in 1883. In fact, in 1950 the Clarks brand once again brought itself to the forefront of the footwear world by introducing the Desert Boot – a soft-leather boot that would become the flagship of the Clarks Originals footwear line. Then, later that same decade, Clarks once again proved themselves to be industry innovators by being the first to vulcanize rubber soles directly onto leather uppers in the shoe-making process.
Over the following decades, Clarks would prove themselves to be the leaders in footwear over and over and over again. In the 60s, they created the first true comfort shoe. In the 70s they were the first to use polyurethane as a sole material. In the 80s, Clarks created the very first "air comfort" shoe and in the 90s, Footwear News named Clarks "Company of the Year" proving what everyone already new – when it comes to footwear innovation and technology, nobody beats Clarks.
Today, in the 21st century, Clarks footwear is still a favorite among even the most discerning of shoe buyers.
