Geox: Breathtaking Shoes That BreatheWhat's so unique about Geox footwear? The fact that the shoes are made in Italy definitely don't make the brand one-of-a-kind. After all, can't most of the high-end names in footwear trace their beginnings back to Italy? The seeds of the Geox brand were sown in Southwest America when Mario Moretti, the son of an Italian winemaker, was taking a vacation in the area's hot desert climate. While trekking through the desert, Mario's feet began to overheat and he decided to poke holes in the bottom of his shoes so his feet could cool off and the sweat could drain out. Surprisingly, the idea worked and the overheating problem was no more.
If that was where the story ended, we wouldn't have the Geox brand. Fortunately, Mario realized he was on to something and the brainstorming began.
Mario didn't throw his holey shoes away when he got home to the milder, wetter climates of Italy. However, he did discover that while hot air and sweat could get out of his holey shoes, water could also get in. It was at this time that Mario went in search of a solution that would allow hot air out of the shoes without allowing water and other undesirable elements to get in. Thus, Geox shoes were born.
Mario began designing and distributing his Geox shoes – shoes that would allow sweat and heat out without allowing anything in – in 1996. Over the past decade the brand's popularity has skyrocketed and Geox shoes have gained a faithful following. In addition to the original Geox shoes that were created for men, the brand is now available as casual footwear, cross trainers, boots and sandals. Geox also offers women's and children's shoes in addition to the original men's offerings.
In addition to the growth of the brand's offerings, the availability of Geox has also increased. Today, you can buy Geox shoes in more than 50 countries around the world ranging in price from about $75 to $250 depending on the style. While Geox shoes can not be considered cheap, they are definitely affordable compared to many of the other Italian shoes on the market and the quality is second to none. It's no wonder Geox has grown to be one of the world's largest Italian shoe companies in such a short period of time.
