adidas Shoes: Pioneering the Athletic Footwear IndustryIn 1925, in a small German village, Adi (Adolph) Dassler decided to fulfill the world's need for a quality performance athletic shoe. Adi was passionate about sports and was well aware that current athletic shoe offerings were signficantly lacking. Out of this knowledge, the adidas brand was born.
Adi aimed to create a shoe that enhanced an athlete's abilities, combining comfort with technologically-advanced design. Starting out small, Dassler produced just a few soccer and running shoes. However, as word spread regarding the quality and comfort that the shoes provided, the brand that would one day be adidas quickly gained in popularity. As demand increased, so did production.
Believe it or not, the adidas and Puma brands, though completely separate entities now, were originally one in the same. However, in 1948 when Adi and his brother Rudolph had a falling out, Rudolph went on to create the Puma brand and Adi went on with adidas. This may be why the two brands are so similiar in regards to the level of quality and comfort offered.
Though Adi Dassler passed away in the 1980s, the company's mission and goals remain the same today and the quality of the adidas brand has, if anything, increased as the years have gone by. What was once a small shoe brand in Germany is now a world-wide phenomena. Adidas shoes are famous throughout the world and are sold in over 200 countries across the globe. In fact, adidas is currently the top provider of athletic shoes in Europe.
In addition to men's athletic shoes, adidas shoes are now available in women's and children's styles. The brand offers a wide range of price points, with mens and womens shoes ranging from about $50 to well over $200. Children's adidas shoes are also affordable and range in price from $30 to just under $100.
While adidas will always be famous for its athletic shoe offerings, the brand has launched activewear lines as well as accessory lines in recent years. Now sports accessories such as socks, sprots bags and watches can all be purchased with the adidas logo. Fans of the adidas brand will be happy to know that the sky is the limit and that adidas plans on bringing even more designs to the market and more quality products to sports-orientated individuals. In the world of athletic footwear, one thing is certain ― adidas isn't going anywhere but up.
